Workshop presentation

The workshop aims to increase our understanding of the policies that governments are implementing to encourage companies in China and in Europe to be more socially and environmentally responsible—and thus benefit from the strategic advantages entailed—and of the roles that company ‘actors’ are encouraged to play, keeping in mind that these roles are built on different cultural and managerial traditions.

Topics for debates

1/ Definition of CSR with respect to strategic advantages and entrepreneurial, social and political cultures; differences between CSR and application of national laws; relationship between CSR and universal standards; public policies to encourage CSR.
2/ Promoting CSR and volunteer service. Involvement of various company stakeholders in CSR: local communities, unions, consumers, activists, shareholders and subsidiaries
